Community Participation: A Guide to Following the Salem Port Development

1–2 minutes

Information and resources to help you stay informed

While SAFE and the allies we have formed as Salem Offshore Wind Alliance (SOWA) have made it a habit to follow the Offshore Wind port development, we recognize that following this project at a regular cadence as a resident can feel like a daunting task. In addition to Crowley Wind Services updates available through www.salemoffshorewind.com, we recommend the following outlets for tracking this project:

  • Attend neighborhood association meetings when Crowley Wind Services presents
  • Get to know your neighborhood association liaison to SOWA — Bridge St Neck, Salem Common, Historic Derby Street, and Point Neighborhood all have liaisons.
  • Sign up to receive city E-Alerts on upcoming city meetings. Pay special attention to Planning Board and Port Authority meeting agendas to see if offshore wind is to be discussed.
  • Sign up to receive SAFE’s quarterly newsletter by sending an email to salemsafe@gmail.com
  • Tune into SAFE’s programs and follow us on Facebook.
  • Watch recordings of public city meetings to get caught up on the project. Here are a few we highly recommend:

All of these are rich in updates and visuals to give the public a sense of how the project is developing. We are fortunate to have fabulous, thoughtful, detail-oriented leaders in their fields on our Planning Board and on the Port Authority. We are learning about the other boards as we go, but thus far have found that members of these bodies are aksing thoughtful questions and prioritizing neighbors and the community.
