“As champions for a Just Transition at Salem’s port, SAFE is gutted by the federal administration’s cancellation of $34 Million of Salem’s Offshore Wind Terminal. The community came together with an Environmental Justice vision for the wind port – it was something we all wanted. This project was an investment in local union jobs, the local economy, our schools, and regional sustainability.
No longer will we see the $1.25M investment in early education, $400k in scholarships, local hiring commitments with priority to women and BIPOC residents, bilingual education and outreach, and funding for our infrastructure. This project was not just a wind port – it was an investment in residents of Salem and the North Shore.
As we collectively weather the climate crisis, SAFE puts community first in our efforts. The work to build a just and sustainable future for Salem over the last 20+ years continues stronger than ever. We have long held a vision for a wind port at our shores, and we will not rest until we see this vision realized.”
